Rainy Day

It is a rainy day so I came up with the great idea to take Audrey to the Children's Museum. I thought it would be a fun way to stay dry without being cooped up in the house. So, I packed a snack for the van ride and got Audrey pumped up for the museum. After parking on the top floor of a parking garage, walking a block, we rounded the corner and came upon a sign on the front door of the museum that read CLOSED for cleaning. Are you kidding me?! I had just visited their website 20 minutes prior to find out what hours they were opened and it mentioned nothing about being closed all week for cleaning. I had to break the news to Audrey and it tore my heart in two to do so, but she took it like a champ. Strike one!

I had something else up my sleeve. I was not about to let Audrey down. I promised her a day of fun and I was going to give her one. The next stop was the indoor play center. 15 minutes after the disappointment of the museum we arrived at the indoor playground. Once again, she was stoked and telling me all about how she was going to slide and play. But wait, there is a sign that says you have to be 3 years old to play in the play structure. I am not going to disappoint her again, so I hope that no one will ask for her age. When we get inside the man working at the front desk did inquire about her age and when I said that she will be 3 on November 1 he thought that was close enough (yes!). I handed the man my debit card to pay for our admittance and he says, "I'm sorry ma'am. We don't accept debit cards. Only cash or check".

"I don't have any cash or my checkbook. We were going to go to the children's museum, but they were closed" I said hoping he would have pity on me.
He didn't and all he could muster up was "sorry". So, I crouched down to Audrey's level to look into her big blue eyes (which by the way were filled with excitement over the play ground she thought she was going to play on) and I had to let her down again. I tried my best to explain why we had to leave and I carried her out crying. Strike 2!

I was quickly running out of ideas and wasting a lot of gas driving around town. All of a sudden it donned on me that I had a token for the carousel at the mall in my wallet. So, we drove clear across town so Audrey could ride a carousel. Our mall also has a little area for children to play so I let her play there afterwards. She met and played with 2 children who were roughly her age and all was good. Score!!

Driving a race car. :)
