A Secret Excursion

Today we made our first trip of the year to the Henry Doorly Zoo. It was a spur of the moment decision that we kept a secret from the girls until we were on the road. We kept them guessing and it was fun to see their faces (especially Audrey's) when the secret destination was revealed. It was 46 and rainy today, not ideal conditions for the zoo. However, we took advantage of the many indoor exhibits. We spent most of our time in the Lied Jungle. Madeleine loves the Pygmy Hippos & we discovered that Audrey loves going across a rickety bridge located there. This bridge sways from side to side when you walk on it & the fact that it is under a waterfall makes it quite slippery. The 3 times Steven took her across were uneventful, then I tried. I am a klutz and with the first step I took I slipped, scaring the stuffing out of Audrey. Once she regained her composure, we gave it another try and made it safely across.
Much to my disappointment the big cats were not on display, except for this one.He had his sights set on a seeing eye dog.

Some of the other exhibits we enjoyed were the aquarium, butterfly pavilion, & gorillas. We can't wait to go again when the weather warms up.

Here are the girls on the way home. Much to our surprise Madeleine fell asleep immediately while Audrey goofed off almost all the way home. That is until she conked out practically mid-sentence.
As we typically do, we took many pictures. To see all of them in their full size you can click here to view my album on facebook.

I'm proud of you for going across the bride, I NEVER DO!!! That fear of heights keeps me and Toby on the path and watching for the others to cross :) Looks like a fun day.
