This picture has nothing to do with the bike-riding lesson other than it was taken the same day, in my parent's back yard, in front of their crab apple tree, & I like it. 
Look at her face. She was very apprehensive at this point & quite frankly, so was I. I really want her to overcome her fear and learn.
Riding around and around a school parking lot.
While my dad was giving Madeleine her lesson, Audrey was riding her little hand-me-down bike, with training wheels. The reason she is not wearing a helmet is because upon arriving at the school we discovered that her helmet no longer fit. So rather than disappointing her and more than likely having to deal with a fit, we let her ride without one.
She thinks she's hot stuff!
Shortly after this picture was taken we made her stop riding. You see, Audrey is the complete opposite of Madeleine and has no fear (well, except for when it comes to bugs & that is a whole 'nother story). She kept racing down a little hill. She would start peddling until she was going so fast all she could do was let her feet fly. The smile on her face was priceless and I tried so hard to get an action shot, but she was going too fast and I really needed to stay close by to prevent her from falling down.
Back to Madeleine. The longer they practiced, the more she seemed to like it. However, there was an instance when she started to whine and demanded to get down. When that happened, my dad hopped on the bike instead. That was just enough to entice her back on.
By the end of the evening she was smiling and ready for another lesson. Hopefully it won't be long before I can report that she has conquered the two-wheeler.
