4th of July Festivities

Here are the girls posing for some 4th of July pictures. They did not wear matching outfits this year. In fact, I had to get creative with Madeleine's outfit. The sparkling red headband officially makes her outfit look patriotic.

They are sitting in the rocking chair my mom rocked all of her girls in. She has since passed it on to me.

While we are taking a trip down memory lane anyway, here is a picture of Audrey on the 4th of July 3 years ago:
Typically we celebrate the 4th of July at our house with a barbecue & an evening spent on the lawn watching neighbors shoot off fireworks. This year, however, was a little different. Steven's grandmother and aunt (whom we rarely see) were at his parent's house for a visit. So, we had lunch with them. The adults visited while the girls played in the backyard. Believe it or not Madeleine & Audrey requested jackets because it was overcast and 68 degrees . . .on the 4th of July!!

Later in the evening we headed to my parent's house for more barbecue & we ended the night with a fireworks display done by the country club located just a couple blocks from our house.

Look at Madeleine. That sums up her feelings about fireworks.
While we were at my parent's house, we took their dog Daisy for a walk. The majority of us enjoyed the firework displays we saw on our excursion. In fact, Audrey jumped up and down while yelling, "I love fireworks!" while Madeleine was on the verge of an anxiety attack.

I was the same way as Madeleine! Fireworks used to freak me out!! I grew out of it, hopefully she will too. However, the anxiety seems to linger...I think it was passed down from generations of McCarty's :)

Poor Madeleine! Maybe she'll like them one day. We stayed indoors this 4th (Justin was working too), and watched fireworks on TV. Hopefully next year we'll go see some in person!
