Prayer Request

This is a picture of Kathy and Everett Lewis taken in January 2006; they are long time friends of our family. In fact, when I was a little girl I had a crush on Everett. Here is an exerpt from a letter Kathy wrote to me before I got married:
"Dear Katie, You were the most beautiful baby and little girl. It's hard to believe you are 'all grown up' already. When your family still lived in Ft. Worth Mr. Lewis & I would sometimes come to visit. One time your mother was getting you ready to see us. You were concerned 'will Mr. Lewis think I look pretty, mom?' I am so thrilled that on June 9, 2001 there will be another Mr. Lewis waiting at the altar for you & he will think you are the most beautiful woman he has ever seen."
Mr. Lewis (Everett) was called home to be with Jesus in June 2006 after battling cancer for years. Now, Kathy is battling the same disease that claimed the life of her best friend and companion. She is currently undergoing Chemotherapy and has lost all of her hair; she received some wigs for Christmas & is sporting a new look. :) She goes to a clinic that keeps close tabs on her blood, blood pressure, and pain management.

Would you please join me in prayer for Kathy and her daughter, Amy? Please pray that the Chemo treatments will have a good outcome and that her anti-nausea meds will work well. Her daughter will be returning to school in New York on Saturday; please pray for her safe travel.

It is hard to understand why God allows some people to endure so much pain. The book I am currently reading, Get Out of That Pit by Beth Moore, has some good insight:

"Beloved, let this one sink in deeply: if God allowed you to be thrown into a pit, you weren't picked on; you were picked out. God entrusted that suffering to you because He has faith in you. Live up to it. All the way up."

I think Kathy is living up to it. She recently told my mom this, "It is a win-win situation. If I live I get to spend more time with Amy. If I die I will go to heaven & be with Everett".

I loved this entry, and i love hearing the story about Kathy's letter. That's so cool that now you have "your own mr. Lewis." :)
I'm really glad you put that on your blog. I think it's a story everyone should hear.

Thanks,Katie. This one made me cry out loud. Kathy is such a dear friend and seeing that photo...and walking down memory lane...
Even though she is in tremendous pain every day she is always so thankful and so faithful. What a blessing and example of faith she has been to me! Thanks again for sharing her story.

What a great post - even for those of us who have never met Kathy. Thank you for addressing the pain that accompanies all life on this earth and the hope Christ provides for eternity.
