This afternoon the girls and I did some grocery shopping. We didn't get started until 11:45, so halfway through the girls (especially Audrey) became very agitated. Nap time is at 1:00 and Audrey starts getting cranky like clockwork the closer it gets to 1:00. She was yelling at me, "MOMMIEEEEEEEE, MOMMIEEEEEEE!" and taking items out of the cart and throwing them on the floor. To paint an even more vivid picture, she was flinging herself back and forth while screaming like a banshee and grabbing items to throw on the floor. When I picked up the last item on the list I made a mad dash to the checkout. As I was putting my purchases on the counter, an older gentleman got into line behind us. Audrey started acting charming and flirting with the gentleman; he was loving it. I noticed he only had 2 items so I told him he could go ahead of us. He was very gracious and after he paid I noticed him lingering for a while. A few minutes later he presented me with a dollar bill that he had folded into the shape of a heart & he said, "I never let an act of kindness go unnoticed". I thanked him and said he didn't have to do that, but he insisted. And to think all I did was let him get in line ahead of me. Some people have a way of leaving lasting impressions on our hearts and this gentleman did just that to mine.

Thanks for sharing, Katie! What a great story! I think often we have no idea what kind of impact the little things we do have on people... for good or for bad! Thanks for the reminder!
thats awesome... if only more people acted like that... think of the instant change this world would have.
i must say, that is one Neat-o story! It almost seems like something out of a movie. Like a "pay it forward" sort of thing.
If only people did stuff like that in real life more often...
That was such a nice story and the picture of the dollar folded into a heart was such a neat idea. Although he left a lasting impression on you, obviously your act of kindness did the same with him.
I enjoy your blog and try to check it regularly. Keeps me in touch with your family, thanks for letting me know about it.
Your Texas grandma
Some people have a heart as kind as yours, Katie :) There aren't many of them, but they do exist. You are THE most tender hearted person I've ever had the privilege of calling my friend.
We had a blast with the girls tonight. Madeleine cracked us up at dinner with her stories about her afternoon with Daddy and Audrey. Little Miss Audrey is so independent. She wouldn't let me help her with her little package of fruit snacks even though she was having a wee bit of trouble getting them out at first. Oh and by the way, she did still manage to eat a good supper despite sharing some of it with Daisy.
Love you!
