Mr. Mom

This weekend Steven had the privelge of
playing mom. On Saturday I went shopping in Omaha with two of my closest friends. We went to a consignment shop called "Re-Runs" where you can purchase gently used children's clothing. It was not an in and out sort of shopping trip. It was time consuming as we picked out clothes left and right and threw them into two shopping carts. By the time we were done I needed help pushing the cart as I could not see over the top. However, I have gotten off subject; we were in Omaha all day while Steven stayed in Lincoln with the girls. He did drop Audrey off with my mom so he could get a haircut, then he took Madeleine to dance. After dance he picked Audrey up and laid the girls down for their naps. While they rested he did laundry, cleaned the kitchen, and vacuumed the living room. Imagine my surprise when I arrived home that evening to a clean house (too bad it didn't remain that way for long). I was actually awe struck since I have a hard time keeping the house clean on a day to day basis. However, those who know me best know that I am not a good housekeeper. I try, but that is simply not my gift.
On Sunday I had to work from 1:00-5:00. For those of you who do not know, I work part-time at a locally owned Christian bookstore in the evenings and weekends to earn supplemental income. While I worked, Steven took the girls to a birthday party in Hallam. This made me nervous because Steven is slightly anti-social, but I said a little prayer and hoped for the best. That afternoon was a slow one at work so I went to the back from time to time to see if I had any messages on my cell phone. Sure enough, I did and it was from Steven. It went something like this, "The birthday party was awful. Audrey was throwing temper tantrums and I am never doing this again". I had to laugh because I too have experienced Audrey's temper tantrums at the most inopportune times. She is very independent and becomes extremely angry when she doesn't get her way or if anyone tries to help her in anyway. I learned later that she wanted to be the center of attention while Olivia (the little girl the birthday party was for) opened her presents. I can just imagine her shrieks when Steven picked her up and removed her from the situation.
In short, I am very proud of Steven for leaving his comfort zone and helping me out this weekend. I feel that I have been blessed with a wonderful husband & the girls have been blessed with a wonderful dad. And even though he said he would never take the girls to another birthday party without me, I know he will. :)
