The gorgeous Fall weather we've been experiencing allowed us to celebrate Audrey's 5th birthday at the park. We met there on Saturday afternoon for a small family gathering with the grandparents (and Aunt Gracie). We ate a picnic lunch and enjoyed the gorgeous day. Since Saturday was not Audrey's actual birthday she kept referring to the day as her "pretend birthday" and told anyone who asked that she was 4 (it was only her pretend birthday after all).
The birthday girl! I think 5 looks good on her.
How about that cake?! Here's a closer look in case you missed it. It was a joint effort by Steven and I. I was the creative mastermind if you will (months of watching Cake Boss has paid off), but his artistic eye helped me make it look better than I had ever imagined it. We were pretty proud of this cake. :)
She received lots of great presents, one of her favorites being this unicorn Pillow Pet. She wanted one so badly.
And even though it wasn't her birthday, Grammy got Madeleine a pillow pet also. I thought it was going to be a Christmas present and was just as surprised as her when she received it that day. Her nickname is Ladybug, so you can see how fitting this pet is.
Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday to you . . .
Make a wish!
She licked the frosting off of every candle and figurine on that cake. She's very effecient.
Madeleine refused to sit down and eat a piece of cake with us because there were a few uninvited guests; bees. Here she is running away from them.
After eating cake, we had to go work it off .
Audrey likes all things that go around and around like the carousel pictured above, or this tire swing below. No matter how hard or fast I think I'm pushing her, it is never enough. She always wants to go higher or faster.
Madeleine found a ladybug.
On Audrey's actual birthday (no more pretending) she was treated to breakfast in bed.
Other than pancakes, her favorite breakfast is a donut with sprinkles. After breakfast she got ready for pre-school where she was able to celebrate her birthday with her classmates.
Since it was her special day, she got to be the leader. One of the responsibilities of the leader is to hold the flags during the pledge of allegiance.
Class picture.
After waiting patiently for Madeleine to come home from school it was finally time to open her presents from us.
Yay!! Aqua Sand! Later in the evening when we opened it up for the girls to play with, it kept them occupied for an hour. That makes it a winner in my book!
Madeleine picked out this little Rapunzel doll for her.
Madeleine is reading to Audrey the card that she made.
Such a clown. :)
Madeleine had dance in the afternoon and since Steven had the day off, he took her to class so I could take Audrey to the park.
She LOVES the tire swing (and all things wild and crazy).
At the end of the day we took her to Noodles for her favorite dinner of Macaroni and Cheese. Noodles probably has the best Mac and Cheese!
We had a wonderful day celebrating this monumental birthday with our "baby". The fact of the matter is, she is no longer a baby and will be headed to Kindergarten sooner than I would like. I am going to try to savor these last months with her being home and maybe try to slow down time as well.
