The West "O" Kitty

We have had quite the day! This afternoon, after dropping Madeleine off for a play date, Audrey and I headed for my mom's house where we had plans to spend the afternoon. Shortly after turning onto a very busy street (West "O" for those of you who are familiar with Lincoln) I saw something on the side of the road . . . a kitten!! It was hugging the curb and in distress. So, I did what anyone would do (well, maybe not anyone) and stopped the van, put on my hazard lights, and attempted to pick up the kitten. However, to my horror, it ran away from me dodging cars as it did. I shielded my eyes certain that it would get hit, but it didn't. I drove in the direction that I saw it run which happened to be a hotel parking lot. I parked my van and started frantically looking in some rose bushes. I called for the kitten, looked, and decided it was a lost cause. Then, a woman pulled up next to me and said she had seen me try to save the cat and said she saw it run into the bushes. So, she pitched in and helped me look. Still, no luck. We decided that it was a lost cause and we both left the parking lot. However, as I did, I had a nagging feeling that I should go back. So, I did, and started scouring the bushes again. Just when I am about to give up again a nice woman who worked at the hotel came out to inquire about what I was doing. When I told her, she helped me look. Just when I was about to give up for the last time, we found the cat!!! He was scared to death and hiding in a rose bush. I had her block the front of the bush while I went in from behind. I picked him up while he squirmed and hissed at me. The nice woman ran into the hotel and grabbed a box for me to put him in.

Now that I have this cat, what am I going to do with him? Since I already have two cats I took him back to my parent's house. We set him up in their bathroom with a warm towel, some litter, water, and wet cat food. After getting him settled I made some phone calls. Since I was adamantly against taking him to the humane society (they euthanize their animals after so long) I called around to different no-kill shelters. Much to my dismay, all of them were full and could not except my little lost kitten; that is except for The Cat House. Even though they are full, one of their volunteers is going to be a foster parent to the kitten until he is old enough to live at the shelter. At that time he will be put up for adoption. When we arrived to the shelter with the kitten, everyone was expecting him and excited to see who they were fondly referring to as the West "O" Kitty. We got a tour of The Cat House and got to see all of their 100 cats. By the time we were done, West "O" kitty had already been de-wormed and was being cleaned up.

Needless to say, at the end of the day I was left with a warm and fuzzy feeling knowing that my little West "O" kitty was saved from an untimely death or a life on the streets. I am also looking forward to getting updates on how he is doing since I gave The Cat House my contact information.

Without further ado, I would like you to meet The West "O" Kitty. Isn't he gorgeous? He looks like the cat I grew up with, Tigger.

Audrey snuggling with him.
Madeleine's turn for a snuggle. Just as all animals do, West "O" kitty melted in her arms.

I am bummed that blogger cropped the sides of my videos, but you can still get the gist.

If you are reading this, Hilary, you will get a kick out of what Madeleine says in this video. :)

He was a cutie. Glad I was able to help you out. He did remind me of Tigger.

Katie, I can't believe that your girls let you give up the cat even if it was to a "safe shelter." If I remember right, Tigger had a bull's eye circle of stripes on his side. :)
