New Dresses From Grammy & Random Thoughts on Raising Daughters

If you have followed my blog for any length of time then you know that I have very frilly girls (as mentioned in this post). Madeleine and Audrey won't wear anything unless it twirls. They are very blessed to have a grammy who buys them pretty dresses & on Friday they were each surprised with two new ones. Here they are modeling said dresses.
I am currently reading the book Captivating by John and Stasi Eldreredge and in it they discuss the one question girls want to know the answer to and that is "Am I lovely?"I have seen this played out in my own home as the girls spin around in their dresses and then light up when told how beautiful they are. While I love dressing my girls in cute dresses and think their outsides are beautiful, I want them to remember that it is their insides that are precious to God.
Don't be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. 1 Peter 3:3-4

Do you remember when you were in middle school and had the fluffy bangs that took so long to get right? I gave that verse to you then.

Love the new dresses! A great reminder to our girls that God has created them so beautiful on the inside & that they are unique & so special to Him! Hand crafted by the God of the universe! Praise the Lord! Amy J.

Katie,

You are doing a great job teaching your girls about inner beauty and about how precious they are to the Lord. And of course you know that we think they are beautiful inside and out...especially Toby ;)

What a thought provoking post, esp. with just becoming a new parent. How perfect is the verse from 1 Peter! What a good lesson to teach your precious girls as they twirl in those adorable dresses! :) (And NO KIDDING the word verification for me right now is "devil." Man, Satan is qucik at every turn!)
