Today was Kindergarten Kickoff.
"What is that?" you may ask. It is a community celebration at the Children's Museum for local kindergartners. As a part of the celebration Madeleine received a free T-shirt and her very own library card. We spent this evening at the Museum where she got to interact with other kindergartners and meet her teacher. We found out this afternoon who her teacher is going to be and we are
thrilled!
***Rewind a couple months ago to kindergarten roundup. The children were seperated into 5 groups and each group went with a different kindergarten teacher to a classroom for an activity. At the time no one knew who their teacher was going to be.
***Fast forward to one month later. We attended an open house to meet the new principle. The same teacher whom Madeleine met one month earlier remembered her
by name and engaged in a conversation with her. Steven and I said to one another that we would be so pleased if this wonderfully nice woman could be Madeleine's teacher, but what were the odds?
Imagine our excitement when we found out today that this lovely woman
is going to be Madeleine's teacher. We couldn't be happier and knowing that she will be in good hands will make the transition a little easier.

Later in the evening during dinner I started talking to Steven about how quickly time has gone by. As I did so, I started crying crocodile tears in the middle of the fast food resteraunt we were eating in. I explained that a slideshow of Madeleine's life keeps playing in my head and moments in time that I have freeze framed keep surfacing. I have a vivid memory of rocking her in our lazy boy chair when she was no more than a couple weeks old. I held her in my arms for hours at a time just gazing at her and hoping that the moment would last forever. As I was blubbering, Madeleine dug into my purse and pulled out a little photo album I carry around. She opened it to the following picture and said . . .

"Here is something that will make you happy".
I said, "You are right. A picture of my baby Madeleine".
The past 5 years have gone by too quickly. My
baby Madeleine starts kindergarten on August 20th.
