and it was from that moment on that I realized what it felt like to have my heart on the outside of my body.
Her monumental birthday started off with pancakes in the shape of the number 8.
Make a wish . . .
. . . and hope it comes true.
At school, she informed me that "Happy Birthday Madeleine" was written on the chalkboard all day & that the class sang to her. She also got to pick a friend (Abby) to eat lunch with in the classroom with the teacher. Since it was a special day she bought hot lunch.
Steven surprised her by leaving work early to pick her up from school. When she got home, there were presents waiting for her on the table.
She got a jewelry box and . . .
. . .hidden in the top drawer were a new pair of earrings.
The look of excitement on her face is because she just opened a Taylor Swift CD; her new singer of choice.
Audrey took a peek in the bag. You know, to make sure there wasn't anything in there for her. Birthdays are only fun when they're yours.
After opening presents we went to the Children's Zoo. It has been cold and rainy all week, but I am convinced the sun shined today for Madeleine. The high was 57 which is not exactly the ideal temperature for dresses, but Madeleine wanted to dress up for her birthday and Audrey wants to do whatever Madeleine does. So, I obliged (begrudgingly). Tomorrow the cold and rainy weather returns, further proving my point that today's nice weather was in honor of Madeleine.
A trip to the zoo wouldn't be complete without sitting on the animal sculptures.
We spent a long time looking at the penguins since they are Madeleine's favorite animal.
Such a pretty butterfly.
Audrey discovered a strange species of frog.
Camel gazing
After we had our fill of looking at the animals, we made it to the train depot just in time to catch the last ride of the day.
Madeleine requested Chicken and Dumplings for dinner and Chocolate pudding for desert.
| The curlers are because they are having their pictures taken at dance tomorrow. |
Madeleine's birthday may be today, but the celebrating began on Saturday. Over the weekend Grammy took her shopping for a pair of Twinkle Toes.
She has wanted a pair from the moment she first saw a commercial for them in kindergarten. Not only are they pretty in the daylight, but in the dark as well.
The lights on these shoes are unlike any I've seen before, as in they are like strobe lights. Audrey got a pair of "Twinkle Toes" as well.
Even though they are knock offs, Audrey doesn't know the difference and LOVES them. After the shopping trip, Madeleine got to pick a restaurant for lunch. She chose her favorite, Las Margaritas.
So, my special girl had a very special birthday. However, the fun has just begun because on Saturday she is having a makeover birthday party where her Aunts are giving the makeovers. It is sure to be a great time!
