Our Trip to the Zoo

Summer is quickly coming to an end. One week from today Madeleine goes back to school and the lazy days of summer will officially be a memory. As our last hurrah of the season, Steven and I took the girls to the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha. We had a great time, with our favorite animals being the big cats and the gorillas. It was quite a bit hotter than what we have been accustomed to this summer and that was evident by the drastic mood & coloration changes of our little girls(their cheeks were the same shade of red as a tomato) by the end of the day.

We started the afternoon with a picnic lunch. We had some uninvited guests, this peacock being one of them. Madeleine tolerated him well. However, Audrey and I did not appreciate the way he was hovering and begging for crumbs. The other uninvited guest was a chipmunk. That little bugger had no fear as he weaved in and out of our feet waiting for crumbs to fall to the ground. We did not get any pictures of him.

And after a long day of walking around in the hot sun the girls cooled off in front of a big fanSteven took many pictures of the animals we saw today. I happen to think he is a gifted photographer and as a lover of animals I appreciate all of the pictures he took. I wanted to share them with you, but understand that some of you may not find pictures of animals as amusing as I do. So, if you want to, sit back and enjoy pictures of some amazing animals.
