Happy Birthday Dad

Yesterday was my dad's birthday. In my totally unbiased opinion I think he is the best dad. I have fond childhood memories of listening to Tracy Chapman and Bruce Springsteen records with him. He always went above and beyond to help me with my homework including taking me by the arm and walking a figure 8 with me in the living room of our small apartment as a kindergartner. I was having a particularly hard time writing the number 8 and that is how he helped me learn. Now, as an adult, he answers my never ending questions about money, life, household repairs, and the like. He is also the best papa to my girls. What can I say other than I love my dad. :)

Yesterday in honor of dad's special day, we spent a fun filled day at the park. We started off by having a picnic consisting of fried chicken with sticks. What do I mean when I say with sticks? Well, Madeleine and Audrey are used to having boneless chicken such as chicken nuggets, popcorn chicken, or chicken strips. I'm afraid that they were unwilling to branch out and try chicken that was still on the bone, aka with sticks. The picnic portion of the day was slightly stressful as there was a family of bees who wanted to join us for lunch. Madeleine was terrified and sat as close to Steven as she could without sitting on his lap. Unfortunately, I probably set a bad example as I am terrified of bees. The bees also followed us to the playground. However, I absolutely did not make a scene on the playground (screaming & flailing about) in an attempt to get away from a bee that was terrorizing me; I would never do that.

The best part of the afternoon was when took a hike on the nature trail. Other than some wind, we had beautiful weather.

Aunt Gracie twirling Madeleine around by her ankles. :)

Audrey with her best friend, Aunt Natalie.

On a mission

This was a huge discovery. We have been to this park many times and never knew there was a sand box. Score! :)

A few candid shots. After all, that is what Steven does. He is always taking pictures; even when you aren't looking.

Looks like a wonderful time was had by all (well, except for when the bees were terrorizing you- I hate them too!).

Happy Birthday, Uncle Mark!

Where are the pics of Audrey and the snake? That little girl is fearless!

I did not include the snake pictures because they creep me out. :)

Is there anyone else out there in blogger land who would like to see the pics of Audrey petting a snake and letting the snake give her kisses?
