Sometimes I think I should carry a pen & paper with me at all times so I can jot down some of the things Madeleine says. Sometimes I stop whatever I am doing and question, "what did you just say?" Other times, I can't help but smile or laughing out loud. Today we ran a couple of errands and our first stop was Barnes and Noble. I was very disappointed to find that I had forgotten the stroller. So, I asked Madeleine to be my big helper and hold Audrey's hand. Audrey didn't particuarly want to hold anyone's hand or be held so we got what we needed and ran for the door. However, we had one more stop to make. When we got there I mentioned to Madeleine that she could be my helper again & she said "not again; it's too hard".
On Monday I picked up Madeleine and her best friend, Toby, from pre-school. They sat in the backseat of the van chatting like little adults. Apparently another child in their class had a bad day and was not particulary pleasant. From what I could gather the child pushed or hit Toby and it really hurt his feelings. Madeleine passed on her knowledge and gave him some advice, "Just ignore him. That's what I do when Audrey is bothering me".
And finally, a week ago I treated the girls to lunch at Runza because we had been running errands all morning/afternoon. The girls split a chicken strips meal and their favorite dipping sauce is ranch. Actually, Audrey likes to drink her ranch and eat the chicken seperately. She had ranch dressing smeared all over her face and before I could clean it off, Madeleine gently took her napkin and wiped off Audrey's face. The amazing part is that Audrey sat still and allowed her to do so. I thanked Madeleine and told her she did a very good job and that she is a great helper. She then told me she no longer wants to be a builder when she grows up (I never knew that was something she had contemplated), she just wants to be a mommy. :) I think she will make a great mommy some day.
