Strawberries are to summer as pumpkins are to fall and we started the tradition of picking them last summer. Strawberry season is very short, leaving you with a very small window of opportunity to harvest them. With an increasingly busy schedule I felt like we had to go today or not at all. Unfortunately that meant picking strawberries in the rain. We weren't going to let a little rain prevent us from picking farm fresh berries though, so we "suited up" in preparation.

Eventually the drizzle turned into a downpour, but again I wasn't about to let that stop us. We just zipped up our hoods and kept our eyes on the prize.
Before long the rain was accompanied by thunder and lightning. My poor mother wanted to head back to the van, but I was not about to leave until I had a carton full of berries.
Once my container was full and my clothes were adequately drenched I declared my strawberry mission to be successful.
I have big plans to make bread and muffins with those strawberries. There is also enough to make strawberry shortcake or just eat them plain. I have 5 pounds of them after all and I worked hard to get them. As a matter of fact, you haven't lived until you've picked strawberries in the rain (I should have that stitched on a pillow).
