A Lesson in Photography at a Llama Farm

As I am sure you are well aware by now, I love photography.  I don't just enjoy taking pictures, but I love looking at the photography of others.  My sister, Natalie, loves photography as well and has been taking college classes on the subject.  I am envious of her knowledge and want some of it to rub off on me.  So, on Saturday she was kind enough to spend the day with me on an adventure of sorts where she gave me some pointers on how to shoot in manual mode.  As for the auto modes she passed down some words of wisdom from one of her professors . . . "you are smarter than the camera".  I don't know about that, but I am working on it.

Natalie discovered a llama farm several months ago and ever since I have wanted to see it for myself.  We decided it would be a great location for my first photography lesson.  We parked our car at a park and walked the rest of the way.  It was a pretty long walk that neither of us were adequately prepared for.  We had no sunscreen or bug repellent and both of us were wearing flip flops.  Even though we were being eaten alive by mosquitoes, getting burned, and developing blisters, we soldiered on.

Along the way we encountered frogs that made a sound similar to that of a cat, when they jumped into the water.  They were not easy to photograph because they were incredibly shy.

Wild flowers were peppered along the trail.

A creek, also along the trail toward the llamas.

At last, a llama!

Natalie photographing a llama.

This was my favorite one.  He never took his eyes off of us and followed us up and down the fence.  He must be the head llama or the llama in charge of security.

On the way back I quickly captured this butterfly on a flower.  I wasn't as close as I would have liked, but had I been it would have flown away.

I am looking forward to my next photography endeavor.  With Natalie as my guide it's sure to be an adventure.

PS I like the head llama. He looks likes he is smiling; but not a friendly smile. He kind of reminds me of a mob boss.
