Snow Days, Crafts, and Dentures

I have been shamefully absent from my blog for a long time and for the few of you who read it, I apologize.  :)  I have a hard time feeling inspired to write or take pictures during the dreadful winter months.  However, Audrey can have a "fairy" good time even if the sun does not shine.

In fact, she is my sunshine.

Even though we have received a lot of snow, this winter has not been nearly as dreadful as last and that is because the sun has made many glorious appearances.  Also, having children makes the snow more bearable because it brings them so much happiness.  When they are happy, I am happy too.
Madeleine is pulling Audrey around in a sled in Grammy and Papa's backyard.

Audrey is quite adventurous on a sled.

Madeleine with her BFF, Abby.

With all the snow has come several snow days.  The first one is fun, but the subsequent ones are more difficult as cabin fever starts to set in.  Here is how we spend our snow days.
Reading The Nutcracker.

Playing games in an elaborately designed (by Madeleine) clubhouse.

Snuggling with Nikki.

Making stickers.

This kept Madeleine occupied for hours.

The girls aren't the only ones who like to do crafts.  I got out a Potholder Making Kit that Madeleine received for Christmas.  I wanted to learn how to do it so I could better help her.

Madeleine sat and looked on, watching my every move.

Check out my mad weaving skills.

Here I am posing with the finished pot holder.

I don't know if you picked up on the fact that I am wearing different clothes than when I first started the project.  That is because I finished it a couple days later after having my mom show me how to weave the edges.  Yes, I struggled to make a potholder that a 7 year old should be able to make.  I blame it on my need for perfection and a type A personality.  I have gone on to make another (even more beautiful) potholder and feel confident enough to show Madeleine how to as well.  :)

Some other things that have happened since I last updated my blog is that Steven has made me swoon several times.

Exhibit A
There is something about watching a daddy brush his daughter's hair.

This made my heart go pitter pat as well.

Exhibit B

Immediately after returning home from work, before kicking off his shoes and taking off his coat, he went outside to build a snowman with the girls.

Madeleine has been perfecting her art skills thanks to a book she received from Grammy.  It is called How to Draw Fairies and Mermaids and I have been very impressed with some of the things she has learned how to do.

While Madeleine is drawing and doing crafts, Audrey can usually be found playing in her dollhouse
seen here putting a tutu on a hippo.

or pounding out a tune on our keyboard.

Probably the most eventful thing that has happened since I last updated my blog is that I lost a tooth (rather one of my veneers fell off).  Without trying to sound dramatic, it was one of the worst feelings I have ever experienced.  I felt it shift and when I put my finger in my mouth to investigate, it slipped out into my fingers.  My heart dropped into my stomach as I ran to the bathroom to see what I looked like.  I was grateful to discover that it was not one of my front teeth, but I felt like a hillbilly just the same.  In fact I was so mortified that Steven insisted on taking my picture to prove to me that it wasn't that bad.
My hillbilly smile.  The arrow is pointing to my little nubby of a tooth that is under my veneer.

I firmly disagreed with him and felt that it was that bad even after seeing the picture.  Thankfully, my dentist got me in right away, but Audrey woke up in head to toe hives the morning of my appointment.  If it weren't for my mom leaving work early to help me out, I might have had to go an extra day looking like a hillbilly.  However, she is the best mom . . . ever and did leave work early and now my smile is as good as new.  In fact, I have an amazing dentist who understood my anxiety and told me the dream I had where all my teeth fell out (and I was given a hideous set of dentures as a result) is completely normal.  That was a relief because I don't need to add crazy to the list of things wrong with me.  I am still fighting off thoughts of losing all of my teeth . . . at the same time and I keep seeing commercials for poligrip.  It may require a lot of therapy to fix the damage that has been caused by losing a veneer.

I've been waiting for this! Wow, what imaginative granddaughters I have. What wonderful parents they have! Thanks for posting. You made Grammy's day!

Wonderful drawings, Madeleine! I am impressed. You DO NOT look like a hillbilly :) Glad the dentist got you in right away, I'm sure it was uncomfortable. I hope we all get a reprieve from the snow for a while.
