Spring Break

As Spring Break comes to an end, I am looking back on what has been an eventful week.  On Sunday it was sunny and 70 degrees so we spent the afternoon at Pioneers Park.

Our favorite attraction at this park is the Nature Center.  Among other things the girls were able to pet a snake

and have a finger licked by a raccoon??  Actually, although that raccoon is real, it is stuffed.  But doesn't it look like she has her finger in its mouth?

We also enjoyed a hike where Audrey found this pinecone.

The girls also had some pretty pictures taken at various spots along the way.

On Monday it was forecasted to be 78 but it never quite made it there making the capri pants, shorts, and dress the girls and I decided to wear feel less than adequate.  So, we spent the day inside at Grammy's house where we ate lunch and made beautiful crafts.

One of the gifts Madeleine received for Christmas was a create your own friendship bracelet kit.  Friendship bracelets are just one of the things you can make.  Included in the kit was a headband, two hair clips, and some bobby pins.  Madeleine chose to make the headband.

She looks less than thrilled because she was.  Even though the craft was as simple as wrapping thread around a headband, she kept trying to tell me that she couldn't do it; it was too hard.  At first this irritated me, but upon thinking about it later I realized Madeleine enjoys the arts of arts and crafts.  She loves to draw, write, and scrapbook, but does not particularly enjoy the precision that tends to accompany crafts.  I guess you could say I had an "aha moment" that day.

She did eventually work it out (with a little help from moi) and this is her wearing the finished product.

With a little help from my mom, I relearned how to make friendship bracelets and made one for each of the girls.

Later in the day my mom helped the girls make a knot blanket.  They each tied a couple of knots.

Here is the finished blanket, made with their baby dolls in mind.

Tuesday was a beautiful spring day with a high of 81 and a few rolls of thunder served as the cherry on top.  As glorious as 81 felt, it made the days to come feel so. much. worse.  However, we enjoyed the warm weather while it lasted.  That day, Madeleine surprised me with the fact that she can jump rope.

Wednesday began the decline of our warm weather.  However, we didn't notice since Grammy treated us to a day of fun indoors.  Our first stop of the day was Lost in Fun where Madeleine and Audrey played for a couple of hours.  After that we had lunch at our favorite Mexican restaurant followed by shopping for spring and summer clothes.

On Thursday we enjoyed a quiet day at home.  Madeleine worked on a couple more pages of her scrapbook.  It is projects like this where she is completely in her element.

Even after all of the excitement I just described, Friday proved to take the cake for the most exciting.  I took Audrey to the eye doctor for her pre-kindergarten check up.  As it turns out, she needs glasses.  I thought it might be a possibility since she was born 3 months premature, but I must not have given it too much more thought because the news came as a huge surprise.  She was such a trooper as she sat through screenings and had her eyes dilated (see picture, taken from my phone, below).
Audrey with her BIG dilated pupils.

The prize at the end of it all was being able to pick out her new glasses (that and bubble gum).  She picked out a pair of Disney Princess glasses (Princess Tiana, color Strawberry Sunburst).  She is so excited to get them and once she does I will post the pictures.  :)

Looks like a very action packed fun spring break :) Madeleine did a great job on her headband. We need pictures of Audrey in her new glasses! I'll bet she's darling in them. How could she not be with those great big baby blues?
