Our 10 Day Hiatus

Yesterday my family and I resumed "normal" life after a 10 day hiatus from work, school, or any sort of resemblance of a routine.  During those 10 days I stayed up until 2:00 in the morning and slept in until 10:00 almost every day (something I can do when Steven is home).  Since I wasn't dragging myself out of bed until 10:00, breakfast was delayed to the point of becoming brunch meaning most days we skipped lunch altogether.  We spent many days in our jammies until well into the afternoon when we decided it was time to leave our cave.  At which time we would go shopping, or see a movie (Tangled), or go to a park (albeit very briefly).  For this creature of habit, abandoning any sort of routine for 10 days was quite liberating.  However, by the 10th day of our family togetherness, I was ready for the return of our ordinary life.  It has been quite difficult trying to resume a normal sleep schedule, but there has been a certain feeling of comfort in the return of our old routine of work and school . . . although I felt a little left out because I didn't have anything to return to like Steven and the girls (other than housework, I suppose).  Anyhow, here are some pictures from our 10 day hiatus.

Each of the girls received crafts to keep them busy during Christmas break.  Audrey is painting a lion magnet.  I love her interpretation; he is a rainbow lion.

Steven helped Madeleine work on her new scrapbook.  He really is much better at detailed projects like this than I am.  I am too much of a perfectionist that it stresses me out.

There was some sleeping during our break, although bedtimes were loosely enforced.
The orange tail by her face belongs to a seahorse she purchased with Christmas money.

Sunny is a permanant fixture on Madeleine's bed.

One day last week we woke up to bright sunshine and 59 degrees!  We knew that the weather was going to change come the next day so we packed a picnic lunch and headed to Pioneers Park.  Little did we know that the weather was going to change within minutes.  By the time we got to the park, the temperature had dropped 20 degrees and was continuing to do so.  Steven snapped these pictures of Madeleine quickly before we made her put her coat on.

Audrey played with her new streamer for as long as Steven and I could tolerate standing in the cold.

The next day was New Year's Eve.  The 4 of us celebrated together with a little party at home.  I made enough snacks to feed an army . . .

and we toasted to the New Year with some sparkling red grape juice.

I don't have a single picture from New Year's day and the significance of that is it was the first day in an entire year that I hadn't taken a picture (since I had been participating in Project 365).

On January 2 we celebrated Steven's 33rd birthday.  We got him a Marvin the Martian T-shirt (since he has worn holes into his old Marvin t-shirt).  Madeleine made him a card which she wrapped up in a blanket to add a little bit of suspense.

Big hugs for daddy!

Madeleine and Audrey helped me make Steven a Creamy Oreo Pie.

Make a wish!
Notice Madeleine ducking . . . she hates candles!

It was a fun 10 days, but the return of our old routine is nice too.
