My Heart is Full

I usually hate snow, but the lack of it this Winter has made me crave it (I always want what I can't have).  This time last year we had somewhere in the vicinity of 18 inches on the ground and so far this Winter we have only received a dusting here and there . . . until today.  We are in the middle of a snow storm that is not supposed to let up until Tuesday morning.  When it does we should have about a foot of snow.  It only snowed lightly off and on today (with only 3 inches of accumulation) but the girls were ecstatic and I was excited for them.  Seeing their faces light up at the sight of it took me back to when I was a kid growing up in San Antonio.  The idea of snow was merely a fantasy back then as it never snowed in SA (other than one freak storm when I was about 5).  When my family and I moved to Lincoln we would call our southern relatives when snow flurries started to fly and my sisters and I would walk in the piles of snow rather than the freshly shoveled sidewalks.  Anyway, all of that to say it was a pure joy to watch the girls play in the snow today.  My heart felt so full that it literally felt like it was going to burst out of my chest.

What's that?  Is that snow I see falling outside?

I long to go outside and play in it . . .

Let me get my face just a little closer to the window for a better look . . .

Madeleine was quite excited to help Steven shovel and she did an excellent job too!

I love this face!

Making snow angels (something Audrey was reluctant to do at first)

Audrey found a tree branch and turned it into a snow tree.

We tried to tell the girls there wasn't enough snow to sled.  They didn't listen . . . and I'm glad.

I love this face too.

Audrey was so thrilled with the snow that she kept flashing us two thumbs up!

After playing for about an hour, they finally came in . . . all rosy cheeked.

The girls don't know it yet, but tomorrow there will be no school.  It's a snow day!  Madeleine and I will have more time to work on her scrapbook, like we did today.

And of course, we will play in the snow too!
